Fall 2012 Makeup Trends & How to Wear Them!

The runways at fashion week decide the trends, but it’s up to you to decide how to wear them!  Besides traditional autumn-inspired colors, there are lots of more unique and interesting makeup trends out there this season.  Here’s a few quick ideas on how to incorporate the fashion-forward model looks into your everyday beauty routine.

Natural Faces
Although the concept isn’t new, this season’s take on the traditional “brows-lashes-lips” look is a bit more windswept, with flushed cheeks and lips, dewy skin, and an innocent feel.  Turn up the volume by adding a pop of color on the lips, keeping it minimalist everywhere else.

Do It Yourself!  Start out with a light tinted moisturizer to even out your skintone while keeping it light and fresh.  Add concealer wherever needed, but keep it from looking heavy.
Frame your eyes by filling in or setting your brows with a clear mascara.  You can leave your lids bare or sweep a soft neutral shade up into your crease.  Mascara is a must to finish the eyes.
Do double-duty on your cheeks and lips by popping a natural pink cream blush on both!  The creamy texture will give a subtle and very natural hint of color.  If you’re more bold, go for a brighter lip stain in shades of red!
Products To Try:  Garnier Nutrisse Miracle Skin Perfector, $9 (skin); L’Oreal Voluminous Million Lashes Mascara, $8 (lashes);  ELF Eyebrow Treat & Tame, $3 (brows);  NYX Cream Blush, $6 (cheeks & lips)

Graphic 60’s Inspired Eyes
From bold cat eyes to colorful liner designs, this fall you’ll be seeing a lot of looks inspired by the ever-trendy 1960’s era.  Sharp lines are the basis of these trends, with emphasis on saturated shades such as cobalt blue and electric red!

Do It Yourself:  Your everyday style might not support the drama of the looks displayed above, but hints of inspiration could really make your makeup pop.  Try a classic cat eye, done by extending the wing of your liner out towards the end of your eyebrow.
Keep your lines clean and sharp by cheating with a bit of clear tape - use it as a guideline while applying your eye makeup and remove for a crisp shape.  You could also use a Q-Tip dipped in makeup remover to correct any blurriness.
Definitely try out bright colors… trace your upper lashline with a thin line of blue or purple.  Pair these daring looks with a muted face, keeping your cheeks and lips very natural.
Products To Try:  Maybelline Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadow, $6 (bright lines); ELF Waterproof Eyeliner Pen, $1 (sharp lines)

Wine-Toned Lips
This is a classically fall shade, done with a bit more richness.  When done with a very light, neat eye, this deep color will pop but not overwhelm.  Embrace the merlot!

Do It Yourself:  The good news?  Deep, rich reds such as these are flattering on ALL skin tones… you just have to pluck up the courage to put it on!  To tone it down for everyday wear, pick a gloss or tinted balm instead of a lipstick.  Although the color will still be bold, the sheer texture will make it much more casual!  Match the lips with a light brown contoured eye (sweep the shadow through your crease only) and perfect, defined lashes.
For going out, make it matte!  Ensure that you have clean lines all around your lips for maximum drama.  Pair bold lips with a light winged eye and lush lashes, or a very soft charcoal lid.
Products To Try:  Revlon Colorburst Lip Gloss in Bordeaux, $6;  Wet n Wild Mega Last Lipstick in Wine Room; Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me, $4
