DIY Beauty Recipes

Coconut Silkening Hair Mask
You Will Need:
  • Raw Coconut Oil (found at most grocery & health food stores)
  • Microwave-safe bowl & source of heat (microwave, stovetop)
  • One egg (optional)
  • Plastic wrap or a plastic bag
How to Make It:
Coconut oil is a solid at room temperature, and requires heat to become a liquid.  Scoop two to three spoonfuls into your bowl, and microwave the oil until it becomes a liquid (only a few seconds!)  Next, crack the egg into the same bowl, and use a fork to beat the egg and oil together.
How to Use It:
Cover your shoulders with a towel, because this can get messy!  Use your fingers or an old paint brush to apply the mixture to your hair, from roots to tips.  Focus on the ends, where hair tends to be the most dry.  The egg will make your hair feel stiff, but that’s normal.  Once you’ve applied the mixture to your whole head, pin or clip your hair up off of your shoulders.  Using your plastic wrap or plastic bag, cover your hair and head for about a half an hour.  The plastic will lock heat in, which helps the concoction to work better!  Remove the plastic and rinse.

Foot Scrub & Soak
You Will Need:
  • Baking Soda
  • A tub or large bowl that will fit your feet!
  • Warm water
How to Do It:
Soak your feet in warm water for a few minutes (this could also be done after a shower or bath!)  Put a tablespoon or two of baking soda into the palm of your hand or a washcloth, and use this to gently scrub your heels, etc.  Do this for a few minutes and rinse - baking soda is abrasive, but won’t damage the skin, and can also even out discoloration of the skin.
Other Uses:
Baking soda can be used as a scrub all over the body.  Scrubbing with baking soda can help remove the hyperpigmentation caused by razor burn.

Yummy, Soothing Face Mask:
You will need:
  • A banana
  • Honey
  • Lemon Juice
How to Make It:
Blend a whole banana in a blender, and add 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to create the mask.
How to Do It:
Apply the paste all over your face, and leave on for 15 minutes.  Rinse off gently with warm water.

Moisturizing Body Soak
You Will Need:
  • Bathtub filled with warm water
  • Cup of milk
  • Drizzle of olive oil
How to Do It:
Add the milk and oil to your bath for a heavenly soaking experience!  Milk is a natural moisturizer and will also reduce redness.  It will help soften the roughest skin!

Sunburn Relief
To soothe a fresh sunburn:
Mix a tablespoon of baking soda into a quart or so of cold water.  Use a washcloth to sponge this onto your skin.
To prevent peeling:
Use a cotton ball dipped in vinegar to wipe the burned area.  This will work as a toner.  **Witch Hazel will also work**

Clarifying Rinse
How to do it:
Mix two spoonfuls of baking soda with warm water in a cup.  Pour this through your scalp little by little, massaging your scalp with your fingers.  Once you’ve done this to all of your hair, rinse your whole head with cold water.
**Alternative Method**  Mix one part Apple Cider Vinegar with one part water.  Use the same way.
To Get Rid of Dandruff:
  • Rub Tea Tree Oil into your scalp daily
  • Use plain (yellow) Listerine on your scalp every day for 15 minutes before rinsing
