How To: Sanitize Your Makeup!!

I would like to touch on a topic in which very few people know nothing about, “How to sanitize your makeup”. In fact to my knowledge only a few people knew this was even possible. If you swap, buy online or share makeup disinfecting it is highly recommended. Sharing unsanitized makeup may cause infections and/or diseases such as pink eye and herpes. Disinfecting your makeup should be done on a regular basis even if you’re the only one who uses it.
There’s no need to rush out and buy cleansers for your products which will cost you about 30 bucks. The easiest and cheapest way to clean your makeup is with 70-90% rubbing alcohol which kills germs on contact.

MAKEUP THAT CAN BE SHARED BY OTHERS AND SHOULD BE CLEANED BEFORE AND POSSIABLY AFTER EVEY USAGE.
LIPSTICKS: Pour a small amount of alcohol in its cap and dip the tip of the lipstick (the whole stick is not necessary since only the top part touches your lips). Wipe down with a paper towel.
EYELINER AND LIPLINER PENCILS: Pour a small amount of alcohol in its cap. Sharpen a layer of the pencil off with a sanitized sharpener. Dip within the alcohol then resharpen. Let dry.
DRY PRODUCTS SUCH AS EYESHADOWS, BLUSHES AND BRONZERS: Some people sanitize these products by wiping down the first layer of product with a paper towel then spraying it down with alcohol in a spritz bottle and letting it sit to dry. Others feel like this may ruin the color of the product. Which ever you prefer is fine. Dry products are not prone to bacteria so its safe to say you will be fine if you just wipe down the first layer of product with a paper towel

MAKEUP THAT SHOULDN’T BE SHARED BY OTHERS.
CREAM PROUDUCTS SUCH AS CREAM BLUSHES AND CONCEALERS:  If shared, a small amount should be scooped out with a cosmetic spatula and transfer to another surface in which you can dip your brush in. If you are the only one using the product you can just wipe it down with a paper towel damped with alcohol.
LIQUID PROUDUCTS SUCH AS LIQUID LINERS, MASCARAS, FOUNDATIONS AND LIPGLOSS: If shared, a clean disposable cosmetic applicator should be used. The applicator should be dipped in the product once and thrown out. If your the only one who is using these products there is no safe way to say it wouldn’t get contaminated with bacteria. The best way to keep it safe is to go by the products expiration date.

OTHER TIPS
  • Make sure to clean the packaging as well.
  • Always sanitize the surface where you apply your makeup.
  • Make sure you clean your makeup brushes at least every two days and deep clean at least once a week.
  • Never work on anybody including your own face with uncleaned and unsanitized hands.
Hope this was helpful!  Always stay protected <3
